What the Endocrine Nurse SaysThe adult Endocrine nurse sees her role as giving support and advice as well as helping guide adults with KS through the different choices of testosterone therapy. Testosterone Supplements Page | Survey of members page InjectionsApproximately monthly. Pros - once a month rather than daily. Can be self administered. Cons - surges of testosterone at the beginning, low before next injection. This can cause mood swings. There is a new one, Nebido, which is three monthly. It is only available to those already having testosterone replacement. It is a big injection, but not painful if given slowly. It needs to be given by a health professional. Capsulese.g. Restandol. These need to be taken 3-4 times a day. You need a good memory to be able to do this. The levels of testosterone are not as good as with injections. Gelse.g. Testim and TestogelOne big disadvantage for couples is that you can't have naked skin contact within 6 hours of applying it. Buccal tabletse.g. Striant SRThe tablet has to sit under the lip. Some people can't get used to this. Some say it has a taste, others think it is fantastic. ImplantsThis is invasive and leaves a small scar. Some people like it as it is 3 monthly. With these you get the super physiological testosterone levels as with injections. PatchesThese are quite big and it can be difficult to find enough places to put them, as you cannot use the same place within a certain period of time. Lots of people get skin reactions.
